The Last of the Plantagenets

The last of anything is cause for sadness;  a species, a kind of plant, a Imageonce powerful family. Richard III was the last of the Plantagenets, a rowdy bunch much given to war and scheming, as was usual at the time. And has that changed much, really?

It is wise to remember that history is written by the victors and after the Battle of Bosworth Field, where Richard was killed, the spin doctors of the era moved in and began their successful campaign to blacken the man withe the twisted back, twisting his image into villainous shapes. Much of that they spread about was never really proved.

And now, 700 years later, his re burial is causing a commotion. The Plantagenat Society is fighting for “what he wanted”, although how they know is not explained, or at least I haven’t heard it.

I say givhomie the benefit of the doubt and bury the guy. Surely he wasn’t any worse the rest! And by some accounts, a whole lot better!image
